On a plane the other day, returning to Atlanta, the ladies seated behind me were from Alabama. The one lady mentioned that she used to fly straight into Anniston (a town on the border of Georgia), where there used to be a small airport. However, the planes kept missing the landing strip and crashing into nearby hills, so they had to close it down. This anecdote struck me as being quite emblematic of Alabama.
The same chatty lady was describing some problematic members of her family and said something such as, "If he comes and tries to take my dogs, I'm going to have to go and call the sheriff. He used to like to take them off the leash just to get me all worried. Can't let him take my dogs. Can't let him do that."
Put your foot down, Ma'am.
